What a week! On of the more important weeks on July 06.
On Thr and Fri, i get to meet up and be introduced to my Dear's DAD! What an important moment it was, to finally get to meet him! Thankfully, all went well and henceforth two hearty nights of conversations, political discussions and most importantly, friendship.
Certainly, as much as i like to boast of my people skills and ability to be fluent, i have to confess that my heart certainly skipped a beat at the fateful moment in Carlton Hotel when Uncle stepped forward to embrace my Dear. Fortunately, i still managed a credible confident introduction, coupled with a warm handshake. This would mark the beginning of 2 eventful days!
Fortunately, after mundane information such as place of study, age etc were gotten over with, Uncle and I manage to sustain a night long discussion of finer topics such as politics and even had some time for an odd conspiracy theory or two. All of this amidst the fine dining atmospher of this really cool French Dinery in Holland Village. ( more on the food after these messages)
Out came the conflict of Isreal vs Palestine. Presenting my very Americanised versions of the story, i was presented with the fairer facts of this conflict!
Next was a hearty discussion of the failings in Thai Politics, especially with regards to PM Thaksin, the current PM of the caretaker GOV of Thailand. Strangely enough, i soon realise that my sources from ST and Newsweek all paint rosy pictures of this leader but from the MAN on the ground, Dear's Dad presented a whole new conflicting image of the PM. A whole new side that was little less known. ( ask me more in person, i dont blog politically for fear of censure) At least Auntie Jo and Auntie Lisa (oops, forgot to mention them) managed to engage in this discussion. Eye opening definitely.
And finally, an opportunity to show of some stuff i learnt from PS1101E, i brought up the seperation of the church and the state. (treaty of westphalia and catholics vs protestants)
On went another hearty discussion which i found my own knowledge wanting in comparision to Uncle's wisdom. I need to read more definitely lol!
To sum out a fantastic thursday night dinner, an American conspiracy theory of 911. I was presented scientific fact produced by scientist investigating the incident. The most interesting of which is the boiling point of the metal foundations used in the building of theWTC. The heat from a burning plane cannot melt these foundations, a claim that is reasserted bt the architech. Another interesting point to note that 2 planes hit 2 of the WTC towers, leaving one untouched, but it fell anyways, raising suspicion of demolition methods used. The culprit? a mystery of course, with some fingers pointed at a certain "plant".
Complex topic aside, here's a quick heads up on the food.
Red wine and white wine that slips down one's thoat with little hint of alcohol but robust with the taste of grape and a heavenly texture that is wonderful to savour.
Appetiser of Special French Onion soup, GODLIKE. Im no huge fan of onion and yet this dish was made to fine perfection, with the onions so soft and finely chopped it melts in the mouth not to give off oniony taste, but one of herbs and savoury delight.
Black pepper steak with whipped potato.
I never tasted whipped potato of this quality, and i conclude that a good chef can turn such common food into food for the gods.
As for the meat, it was simply delightful. Each stroke of my knife saw that the meat yielded easily to reveal a tender interior that was simply glorious to taste. The black pepper coating made it ever more tastier, giving it a spicy touch that went ever so perfectly with red wine.
Dessert was a Godlike chocolatey fondant that oozed with black gold. Its crusty exterior gave way to a warm, gooey and wholesome chocolatey interior that sent me into the heavens. Dear passed me some icecream too, that was wonderful as well. Tragically, i was so caught up in etiquette that i did not give dear some of my Fondant. My heart felt apologies.
This would summarise the night of Thursday :D
Friday was pretty frutiful too, had dinner with Dear and Uncle at Sakae Sushi in Funan. Sushi was yummy as always and conversation revolved more around down to earth topics about the future and such. Before, i even had a valuble opportunity to take a peek into the window of my dear's life, through the screen of Uncle's Mac Laptop, im treated to spectecular pictures of my dear's home and the many places that she has been to such as canada and such. That was very important to me! someday we'll take some of our own! Thailand december :D:D
All good things do have to come to an end. Walking Dear and Uncle to Carlton, i felt my heart ache a little as i begin to empathise with the feeling of longing between them.
In these 2 day, my relationship with DEAR has become stronger than ever. I love you loads!! Lets go travel the world real soon! Lets begin with this december :D
